ASCIITDD is a very simple terminal program that emulates a TDD (Telephone Device for the Deaf). It supports only ASCII communications. Installation is easily accomplished by unZIPing the file to either the hard drive or a floppy drive. Once you start the program for the first time, it asks a few very simple questions and explores your modem to confirm, creating a data file that holds the configuration information for future reference. The README file gives instructions and and some advice for hearing users communicating with Deaf or Hearing Impaired users, as well.
ASCIITDD is provided by the Technology Assessment Program at Gallaudet University in Washington DC. Norman Williams, himself a deaf programmer, is Sysop of a BBS maintained there to support this and other programs for the deaf community.
